Exilium is an independent, work-in-progress game. This is a plain-language starting draft and not formal legal advice. If these terms matter to your situation, please consult a qualified professional.

This Privacy Policy explains what information Exilium (the "Game") collects when you play at exiliumidle.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Game, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information we collect

• Account details — your email address and a character name you choose when you register.
• Your password — stored only as a secure, salted hash (via our authentication library, Better Auth). We never store or see your password in plain text.
• Gameplay data — your character's progress, inventory, skills, marketplace activity, chat messages, and similar in-game state, which we save so you can pick up where you left off.
• Basic technical data — information your browser sends automatically, such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps, kept in server logs for security and troubleshooting.

2. How we use your information

• to create and maintain your account;
• to save your progress and run the Game's features;
• to keep the Game secure and fair, and to prevent abuse and cheating;
• to diagnose problems and improve the Game;
• to contact you about your account or important changes to the Game, if needed.

3. Cookies & local storage

We use cookies and your browser's local storage to keep you signed in and to remember your session and preferences. These are essential to how the Game works; disabling them may prevent you from logging in or saving progress. We do not use them for third-party advertising.

4. Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with the service providers that help us run the Game (for example, our hosting and database providers), and only as needed to operate it. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our players and the Game.

Note that some information is public within the Game by design — for example, your character name may appear on leaderboards, in chat, or in marketplace listings.

5. Data retention

We keep your account and gameplay data for as long as your account is active. Because the Game is in alpha, data may also be reset as part of updates. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and diagnostics.

6. Your choices & account deletion

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by emailing support@exiliumidle.com. When you delete your account, we remove your personal account data, though some information may remain in backups or logs for a limited time.

7. Children's privacy

The Game is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, if higher). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below that age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Game evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continuing to play after changes take effect means you accept the revised policy.
